It is possible to do drain clearance without resorting to powerful cleaning chemicals. Most commercial experts in drain unblocking Leeds use lye or acid – dangerous chemicals that can cause physical harm if used incorrectly and can also damage PVC pipes. There are a number of effective techniques that use non-toxic household items instead.

The first thing to try when faced with blocked drains Birmingham is a plunger. This tool can often shift blockages without having to resort to pouring chemicals, toxic or otherwise, down the drain. If the plunger fails then it is possible that a bacterial enzyme cleaner that ‘eats’ organic blockages and may shift the blockage. Unlike acid cleaners they are not caustic and won’t damage fittings and pipes. Due to the nature of these bacterial cleaners they will also continue to work after having been used to shift a blockage and are a useful way to maintain a clean drain.

Bicarbonate of Soda

Sometimes referred to as baking soda, this household baking aid has been used as a household cleaner for a long time. This technique will only work on a slowly draining sink or basin that hasn’t backed up into the sink. Make sure the drain is clear of water and then pour a cup of bicarbonate of soda into the plughole followed by three cups of boiling water. The alkaline action will break down the blockage but it may require several repetitions to clear the drain blockage.

This method can be made more vigorous by adding vinegar to the sink as well. After pouring in the hot water, add a cup of vinegar. The bicarbonate of soda and vinegar will react together causing bubbling, which may help dislodge the blockage if it is particularly stubborn.

Washing Soda

Washing soda (sodium carbonate) is a powerful alkaline that can quickly destroy drain blockages. It should only be used when the sink isn’t draining at all. Pour a cup of washing soda over the plughole area and wait for it to sink down into the drain. Allow time for the blockage to broken down and once the water starts to move use the bicarbonate of soda method to clear the remains of the obstruction. Because of the alkaline nature of washing soda you should never use it if you have recently used a commercial drain cleaner in the blocked drain. It is also quite caustic and can damage pipes if overused.

Non-toxic Prevention Tips

It is always a good idea to prevent blocked drains Manchester by trying to keep your drains clear of debris and organic materials to prevent the build up of blockages. The following tips will help prevent blocked drains and slow draining plug holes:

Pouring a kettle of hot water down a drain once a week can help melt build-up of fat and grease

A cup of washing soda followed by several cups of hot water poured down bath and shower drains can help shift clots of hair

Avoid pouring fat or grease down kitchen sinks as they congeal when they come into contact with cold water.

When the worst happens, and you find yourself locked out of your house, or standing with a snapped-in half key in your hand, you’re going to need an emergency locksmith. But when it comes to choosing a locksmith, what factors should you take into consideration? How do you decide what is a reasonable price to pay. There are many different prices charged by many different locksmiths, but there are key factors, which always influence that price. These are the cost of service, cost of labour, amount of time spent on the job, and materials needed. As with all things, the cheapest locksmith is not always the best option. You should look for a balance between price and the quality of service that you will receive.

So, the first factor to consider is the cost of the actual service. If it’s an emergency situation then you’ll need master locksmiths that offer a mobile service. And this means that they will probably charge you for mileage, and quite possibly petrol costs. Some will also charge depending on the neighbourhood that you live in! A few companies may not charge at all, and this will obviously keep them very competitively priced.

You also have to factor in the cost of labour. Locksmiths obviously have to go through training to actually learn their craft. But they will all have different amounts of experience and levels of knowledge, meaning that prices can vary hugely. Some locksmiths have prices for specific job types, but most will charge for labour depending on how long the job takes. Make sure to clarify how labour is calculated before you book the job, as it can otherwise be a nasty shock to the system! Remember also that, whilst many locksmiths include the cost of their time when working out labour charges, some won’t. You should clarify this with the company. If they do charge separately for time, try and ascertain how long the locksmith has been in the job for. One who has been doing the work for a long time should be able to complete work far more quickly than someone who’s just starting out.

Lastly, remember that you’ll also need to factor in the cost of new and replacement materials. You should expect to pay for all the materials that have to be used. If a lock is broken, try and find out how much you should expect to pay for a new lock. Make sure you take into account any new deadbolts that might be needed, and if there is any kind of damage to the door frame itself. Try and find a locksmith who offers a warranty on products and, if possible, on the service itself. Most good ones will guarantee their work for a year.

If you need an emergency locksmith, and it’s outside normal business hours, you may have to pay an extra call out charge – although this is usually worth it to avoid standing outside your house or car for hours on end!

Spacia flooring maintenance is straightforward, but occasionally certain problems crop up. Here is how to address them.

Exercise Care with Rubber-Backed Mats

Mats keep moisture and general debris away from the flooring as much as possible, but be aware of the pitfalls of some rubber-backed types. They can leave a residue that may stain the Spacia flooring. If this happens, try a different type of mat.

Achieving a Uniform Finish when Floor Dressing

If you have tried dressing your Spacia flooring and the finish is poor, especially usually uneven, one or more of the following may be the cause:

Soiled equipment: Clean the equipment thoroughly, strip the Spacia flooring again and re-apply dressing.

Too few dressing coats: Try another coat or two (allow time for each coat to dry before applying another).

Second coat applied before first dried properly: Strip floor gain and re-apply allowing each coat to dry properly.

Wrong maintenance product used/incorrect mixture: It is best to use an Amtico recommended floor cleaner, and follow dilution instructions fully (paying particular attention to the surface area your cleaning fluid mixture needs to cover).

When to Dress Your Spacia Flooring

It is not essential to dress your floor unless you require a shiny finish. You may also dress some part of the floor to provide additional protection — for example, on a heavily-used area.

Removing Scuffs and Scratches

A cloth moistened with correctly diluted Amtico floor cleaner will help remove scuffing and general staining. A non-abrasive nylon scouring pad can help remove more obstinate marks. Light scratching can be disguised by cleaning the area and applying Amtico floor dressing.

Difficulties Removing Floor Dressing

One or more of the following could be the problem:

Wrong dressing used: ascertain what type of dressing material has been used and follow its maker’s instructions for removal.

Dressing build up: multiple dressing removals may be required. In severe build-ups, one removal procedure may not be sufficient.

Incorrect dressing remover dilution: check the dilution instructions. Use cold water with Amtico’s dressing remover.

Yellow/brown staining: dressing remover allowed to dry. Try again but ensure floor stays wet until dressing removed.

What Spacia Floor Maintenance Products to Buy

Floor Cleaner — for spot cleaning of individual stains/areas and for use in general floor cleaning.

Floor dressing — protects against hard wear.

Floor dressing remover — use initially on new floor to ensure good base for first dressing. Use to remove old dressing periodically.

Special Care for New Spacia Flooring Installation

Do not wash the floor for forty-eight hours after installation to ensure the adhesive has set properly. Remove any excess adhesive by rubbing with a nylon pad ideally moistened with Amtico adhesive remover, then perform a light clean of the floor by sweeping and vacuuming.

If desired, a dressing can be applied to your Spacia flooring. Follow the instructions on the dressing fluid carefully — a minimum of two coats is recommended.

The use of Amtico floor maintenance products is advisable as they are designed with the Spacia flooring in mind.

Every room in your home has a specific function, and so when you are planning the lighting for your home it is essential that you consider this. For example, you won’t want a dimly lit kitchen when you’ll be trying

Every room in your home has a specific function, and so when you are planning the lighting for your home it is essential that you consider this. For example, you won’t want a dimly lit kitchen when you’ll be trying to prepare food in there.

Spotlights offer beautiful lighting for different rooms in the home. However, the bathroom is the room where you can create the most stunning lighting effects with spotlights, because they can often resemble small candles littered around the rooms. Spotlights don’t just have to be in the ceiling, they can also be in the floor or surrounding a main mirror for added light when doing beauty routines. Spotlights can also be used to feature areas of the home too, which can have quite a dramatic effect.

Strip lighting although historically has been quite ugly, in the modern day there are a range of different styles and designs that you can have installed in the home, and they can be useful for many different purposes. The most common use for this kind of lighting is under kitchen cupboards to light up the kitchen work surface. This creates a bright area for food preparation. They are also commonly used for utility rooms, garages and work rooms as they offer bright lighting for working in.

Floor lighting is a really fantastic type of lighting that creates a soft and sensual mood. It is often used outdoors on seating areas and surrounding water features, and leading up pathways. But floor lighting can also create stunning effects inside the home. You could consider having floor spotlights surrounding your bath, or an entire floor that lights up for something a little different.

Wall lights are great for creating a romantic atmosphere, as traditionally they don’t kick out as much light as an ambient ceiling light. Wall lights are great for the bedroom, as you can have them strategically placed either side of the bed too, which saves having to get out of bed to turn off the lights. They are also a great way to light alcoves and feature walls.

Finally, the traditional kind of lighting which is found in most homes is ambient ceiling lighting, where a central light is hung from the centre of the ceiling. This is most commonly used because it replicates natural daylight, as the light is above everything in the room and so it lights most of the room up.

Of course, whichever lighting style you prefer, you can speak to an electrician to install the lighting for you. While you’re at it, you could consider having automatic lighting installed which turns on by sensor, remote control lighting controlled by a central computer, of even sound activated lighting that requires a clap or a certain voice demand to switch on. In this modern world, anything is possible and it’s only a case of asking the right questions to get exactly what you want.

It is important that you don’t try to do the wiring of your lighting yourself, as you could be at risk of injuring yourself. Instead, hire qualified electricians in Manchester or light installers to do the job for you safely.

Amongst the huge range of waste bins that Brabantia make, one of the cleverest is the Sensor Bin. Brabantia make this is two sizes – a 50-litre and a 45-litre. But why should you consider this type of bin? Design

Amongst the huge range of waste bins that Brabantia make, one of the cleverest is the Sensor Bin. Brabantia make this is two sizes – a 50-litre and a 45-litre. But why should you consider this type of bin?

Design and Innovation

Brabantia bins all share a common feature – they are ergonomically designed, and are about the most handsome bins available! The Sensor Bin takes the concept one step further, by introducing a lid that opens automatically when you keep your hand above its sensor. Once waste has been placed in the bin, the lid closes again automatically. And all the bin needs to operate is 4 AA batteries, which are included in your purchase. The bin itself is made with a sleek stainless steel lid unit, and durable materials that are corrosion resistant. And to complete the look, the bin has specific bin liners to fit perfectly, and eliminate the need for unattractive over wrap.

Hygiene

A bin with a sensor provides the most hygienic solution possible for your home. As it’s completely touch free, the chances of picking up bacteria are almost impossible. And because the bin closes automatically, no unpleasant smells will escape. Brabantia bins are designed with a perfect fit between the bin unit and lid, to provide high levels of protection from waste products.

Brabantia bins are also extremely easy to clean, and the Sensor Bin is no exception. The lid unit is removable, to make it easy to change bin liners and clean the bin itself. There is also an inner removable plastic bucket in the main unit. This has ventilation holes, which help to prevent a vacuum when you’re removing a full bin liner.

It is extremely important to choose a bin that provides good hygiene levels. Whilst surfaces are easily and frequently cleaned with sprays and creams, bins have to store waste material for the length of time that it takes to fill a bin liner. This means that there is a higher risk of germs accumulating, and explains why it’s so important to maintain hygiene levels in your bin. Because Brabantia bins are so easy to clean, there really is no excuse for poor bin hygiene!

Convenience

The Brabantia Sensor Bin has to be the ultimate lazy person’s accessory! Being completely touch free, you don’t even need to make the effort to open the bin lid. And, because the bins come with wide openings, you can easily dispose of even the largest items of waste without actually making contact with the bin.

With a 5-year guarantee, the Sensor Bin is designed to be a long lasting addition to your kitchen. Its sturdy construction is masked by a sleek and discreet unit, which will look elegant in any kitchen. As a finishing touch, the Brabantia Sensor Bin also comes with carrying handles, meaning that you can move the bin easily even when it is completely full. A Brabantia Sensor Bin is a great choice for any lifestyle and kitchen!

The lifespan on your roof depends on many factors, but to begin with, let’s first look at the life expectancy of various materials that are used for roofing.

Roofing contractors will use a range of different materials for your roof, depending on the structure of your property, whether the roof is flat or pitched and the common weather conditions where you live. If you need roof repairs, re-roofing or a new roof, it is always best to call in professional roofing contractors as they have the specialist knowledge required to know which materials are best to use.

Flats roofs are most commonly constructed in felt, single ply membranes and EPDM rubber, all of which are very different materials. Felt is the oldest of these materials and has been used for many years on properties in the UK by roofing contractors. The lifespan of this material is generally 10-20 years, and it can vary widely depending on the weather as harsh weather conditions cause felt to wear more quickly. EPDM rubber is another materials used for flat roofing, however this is a relatively new material in comparison to felt. Rubber roofs have a lifespan of around 20 years. It is a very flexible material and is hardwearing. Single ply membranes can be used on flat or pitched roofs, and are one of the newest materials in roofing. They usually have a lifespan of 20-25 years.

Pitched roofs are generally made of wither slate or tile, and these are the longest lasting roofs. Slate and tile roofs are laid out in small tiles, so usually only missing or broken tiles need to be replaced every so often. Slate has a lifespan of 200 years, but generally a roof will need re-roofing in slate every 40-45 years. Tile is a man-made material and has the longest lifespan. Again, it is usually used for pitched roofs, and has a lifespan of 50+ years. This is why tile is so popular for pitched roofing.

The newer materials are simply becoming more popular because they are more cost effective, and more simple to construct taking less time. Rubber and single ply are also easy to do roof repairs on, and although these materials are not as long lasting as slate or tile, they are a more cost effective option when re-roofing and so it is not a huge issue.

Other factors can affect the lifespan of your roof however, it is not just about the materials that you use. For example, moss and lichen can grow on roofs made of slate and tile, so if you live in an area where it is damp for most of the year, it is more likely that they will grow. Moss and lichen growth will reduce the lifespan of your roof because it causes it to wear more quickly and can cause the tiles to become weakened. High winds and regular snow or rain can also affect the roof as it will wear down more quickly in these weather conditions. With some materials, a lot of sunshine can cause it to wear too, especially rubber.

It is best to discuss the options with your roofing contractors to decide which is the best roofing material for your home.

You as the homeowner are responsible for any plumbing problems within the property which spread out into the street, such as burst pipes within the property. The local water authority provides the water supply and connection to the sewage system, but once inside the property, responsibility passes to the homeowner. Water damage can be invasive and cause all kinds of problems both in your house and that of your neighbour if you live in a terraced or semi detached property. If you have leaky pipes or valves, problem with the drains or your central heating boiler, you should attend to them immediately or call in the plumber to repair them. Regular maintenance of the plumbing will reduce the number of times you have to ask a plumber to rectify problems you may have.

Birmingham Plumber / Plumber in Leicester / Plumbers Nottingham

Pipes can leak through joints which have not been sealed properly or where the seal is broken. Valves can become corroded and stick, causing a malfunction. The most common reason for a pipe to leak is because it has burst due to the water contained in the pipe being frozen and expanding. This will result in water flooding into the surrounding area, and is a real problem if it bursts through a ceiling into the room below. In these circumstances, you will certainly need a plumber to repair the damage.

Manchester Plumbers / Plumbers in Bristol / Leeds Plumber

You will probably need to call a professional plumber or specialist drain clearing organisation if your drains become blocked. This can be due to toilet or shower water backing up causing it to overflow. Electric toilets are notorious for blocking up as they often have very small pipes. You can clear the problem yourself, but if the pipes back up on a regular basis, you may need to call the plumber to check that the pipes are not blocked further into the system. Specialist equipment is required to clear the drains. Drain rods can be hired so you can try to clear the problem yourself, but if it is complicated, you may well need to call in the plumber.

If your central heating boiler breaks down and you cannot identify and fix the problem yourself, you will need to call the plumber. All of the central heating depends on your boiler functioning efficiently. Some problems can be caused by loose electrical connections or malfunction of non plumbing components. Valves connecting the pipework to the boiler can become corroded or just stop working, especially as they are not used very often. This also applies to your water systems, both hot and cold. There is a bewildering array of valves on the market, and a plumber can help you select which one is best for the job in hand.

Before calling out emergency plumbing services, the first thing to do is turn off your stop cock to prevent the problem getting worse. Whatever the size of job, it may be more cost effective to call in a plumber than try to do the repairs yourself. Plumbers have specialist tools and a wealth of expertise and knowledge. They can provide you with advice on how to best maintain your plumbing system and save you money in the long run. Always keep your plumber’s telephone number handy in case of emergencies.

If you are in need of commercial cleaning, it is essential that you select commercial cleaners to ensure that they have the required specialist equipment for the job to produce the results that you expect. Choose the wrong type of cleaners and you may be very disappointed with what you get and end up paying good money without the results you’d hoped for.

Commercial Cleaners Leeds / Manchester Cleaners / Cleaner in Birmingham / Liverpool Cleaner

Domestic cleaners are meant for homes and possibly small offices; however they do not have the knowledge, expertise or equipment for commercial cleaning. Domestic cleaners are probably also not insured for commercial cleaning in commercial premises, which can be far more dangerous due to the machinery and equipment found in the premises.

Cleaners in Glasgow / Cleaners Sheffield / Carpet Cleaners Leeds

Commercial cleaners on the other hand will be prepared and knowledgeable about commercial cleaning. They will be familiar with the use of industrial strength cleaning products, and will have all of the necessary equipment for commercial cleaning, including factories, warehouses and shops and large office blocks.

In most commercial industries, specialist equipment will be used by the business, including machinery and office equipment, and thus specialist commercial cleaning equipment will also be needed. Commercial cleaners will tend to specialise in certain types of premises such as factories so that they will have the correct equipment. Even commercial cleaners offering deep cleans for commercial kitchens must have specialist knowledge and equipment.

There may be some types of machinery or equipment in a factory or warehouse that would be dangerous for a domestic cleaner to try and tackle. This is why it is essential that the commercial cleaners know what they are doing, and have adequate insurance against any damage or injury to themselves or anyone else.

Not only that, but businesses want to ensure that when they call in commercial cleaners, the commercial cleaning is taken care of thoroughly. If the correct cleaning equipment is not used, there is a chance that the job may not be done properly which is not acceptable when good money is being paid. Something else to consider is that generally, only a single domestic cleaner is required for a domestic property, as there is not so much space involved and so the cleaning of an entire house can generally be completed within a couple of hours or so.

However, commercial cleaning is very different to domestic cleaning in this sense too. A commercial cleaning task may require several commercial cleaners to be on the job at once, as generally commercial premises are much bigger than domestic homes. This means you may need to find a larger commercial cleaning company to do the task.

It may even be something as simple as the fact that the air conditioning in your offices requires cleaning, in which case you would need to employ the services of commercial cleaners who specialise in air conditioning cleaning and can do the task not only properly, but without damaging any of the equipment in your offices.

It is simply not worth taking the risk of using domestic cleaners when commercial cleaners are required for commercial cleaning tasks. You could end up losing out and having to repair damage to your commercial premises!

The discovery of a leaky roof can cause all kinds of anguish. Not only does the thought of the cost of repairing it spring to mind, there is also the issue of working out what is causing the roof to leak in the first place. Once this issue has been determined, steps can then be put in place to prevent any further damage from happening to other parts of the property.

Roofers in Leeds / Roofers Sheffield / Roofer Leicester / Roofer in Derby

The manner in which the roofing was fitted could be partially to blame. If the house or property on which the leak occurred is modern then it may be that it needs to be fixed so that it’s insulated securely using materials such as fibreglass shingles, which provide excellent insulation and protection against the elements of the environment. Most modern roofing is guaranteed to use materials such as fibreglass or material which lies under the roof to protect against the weather.

Edinburgh Roofer / Manchester Roofers / Flat Roofing Birmingham

The weather is a key factor in causing damage to roofing. Heavy winds, rain, storms and more can cause holes in the roof, particularly if the roof is old. Wind damage is a huge cause as it can loosen the roof materials over time if they are not fixed securely in place. Modern roofing will use materials such as fibreglass as it guarantees to protect for a long time, with most roofing now being able to last for half a century, which provides both a cost-effective benefit and peace of mind to the homeowner.

If the roofing has not been properly fitted then it could cause roofing to leak due to a combination of time and heavy rain/windy weather which can cause structural damage. Protecting the roof should be the property owner’s prerogative if they want to have a generally low cost of living in the long term. During the autumn and late spring are peak times for heavy rain so it’s essential that check-ups are conducted by roofing professionals who can inspect the roof to ensure it is in top condition, is safe and maintained well. A roofer will also tell you whether any further roof work needs carrying out to improve its condition.

If you want to avoid the initial cost of resorting to a roofing professional, you can inspect it for yourself. You must simply assess it from the inside and the outside to make sure you know where the problem is coming from and then you can determine what steps to take to repair it and prevent further leaking. The signs of physical damage which you should look out for with roofing include looking for any holes or punctures caused by debris, damage of any piping, tiles or drains due to rotting, rust, the growth of algae, etc. It is therefore important to assess these problems correctly so that an adequate amount of repair work is carried out on the roof, but not too much that it creates further problems through unnecessary maintenance work which requires further repair work carrying out in the future.

For budding joiners learning to create your own furniture at home, it is essential to understand the various types of joints or joinery that you can use while working on different furniture projects. Joinery can be formed by using a range of materials such as bindings and fastenings. However, some types of joinery employ only wood joints, which can vary from the simple glued and nailed joints, to the intricate dovetail joints. Familiarising yourself with the various types of wood joinery and their applications will go a long way in enhancing yourselves as joiners, while ensuring that you select the correct joinery for your woodworking projects.

Joiners Leeds / Edinburgh Joiners / Joiner in Sheffield / Glasgow Joiner

Basic butt joint

The most basic of wood joinery, the butt joint is formed when one piece of wood is fitted or butt at a right angle or a square into another portion of wood. This joint is generally fastened with mechanical fasteners. It is used to form joints in construction or in wall framing, but is not an attractive choice of joint for fine woodworking furniture projects.

Mitered butt joint

The mitered butt joint is similar to the basic butt joint, though not a very strong joint type. It is created when two wood butts are joined at an angle rather than at a square or at a right angle. This joint is a more aesthetically appealing joint compared to the basic butt joint, as no end wood grain is visible once the joint is complete.

Mortise and tenon joint

An ancient wood joinery method, the mortise and tenon joint creates a strong and elegant joint. It joins two pieces of wood at an angle. A protruding tenon that is cut at the end of one piece of wood is fit into a corresponding recess, known as a mortise, in the other piece of wood. Mortise and tenon joints are quite popular in creating a variety of woodwork construction such as tables, chairs, frames, cabinets, doors and windows.

Dovetail joint

The dovetail joint is a strong and beautiful wood joint that is renowned for its tensile strength. It is popularly used to create furniture items such as cabinets, drawers and boxes. This joint is formed by creating a series of tabs at the edge of one piece of wood and fitting them into corresponding slots on another piece of wood. There are several types of dovetail joints, such as through dovetail, mitered dovetail, blind dovetail and half-blind dovetail, which can be hand-cut or machine-produced.

Biscuit joint

A modern, woodworking joint, the biscuit joint is used to join two panels of wood end-to-end along the edges. It is created by forming slots in both the panels of wood that are to be joined. Thin, oval-shaped pieces of compressed wood, also known as biscuits are then glued into the slots. The moisture from the glue makes the biscuit swell and secures the joint in place. Biscuit joints are especially useful while working with plywood and creating table tops. Biscuit joints can also be used to strengthen different types of joints such as T-joints, miter joints and corner joints.
